This article presents Law No. 11,340/2006, known as the Maria da Penha Law, which is a legal mechanism aimed at combating, reducing, and preventing domestic and family violence against women. The objective is to discuss women from a gender perspective in conditions of vulnerability and inferiority. In the face of this idea of gender inequality, where men are considered superior to women, this superiority has granted men privileges, leading to the subjugation of women and giving rise to the cultural concept of men being dominant and women being submissive to them. The creation of this law was necessary to provide greater security to women who are victims of domestic and family violence, and this article will also address its application in same-sex relationships.
