Abstract

The present work consists of a literature review based on a qualitative bibliographic research about the problem of the ineffectiveness of the Maria da Penha Law that results in femicide, homicide committed against a female victim precisely because of the gender condition. The woman was always treated as being inferior to the man, this comes from the beginnings where the woman was a mere object of reproduction and satisfaction of the man, who held the power. It happens that, due to the evolution, the woman started to occupy spaces where the imbalance between the genders became a problem, generating conflicts, violence and death, however, the victim in most cases is always the woman. Thus, it is intended to address the historical elements about violence against women, as well as the protection mechanisms in force in Brazil.
