Abstract

Aneurysmal disease consists of an arterial dilation with a diameter equal to or greater than 50% of the proximal or normal arterial diameter of the vessel layers. Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are serious, silent, and potentially life-threatening. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of incidental diagnosis of AAA in abdominal computed tomography (CT) and abdominal ultrasound (US) in a private imaging reference center affiliated with the SUS, in the city of Parnaíba-PI. A total of 3847 CT and US reports from patients (aged 50 years or over) were analyzed from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021. The exams were analyzed for the presence of aortic atheroma and AAA . The reports were collected manually and classified by the presence of atheroma or aneurysm, both in the abdominal aorta using data tracking software. It can be observed that the prevalence of atheromatosis was 23.7% of all exams. Of the 139 exams, the most affected male age group was 60 to 79 with 25 confirmed reports. In relation to examinations of female patients, the most prevalent age group was the same, from 60 to 79 years old, with 57 confirmed examinations. Of the total of 585 reports analyzed, 6 aneurysms were found (1.02% prevalence). Fusiform dilation is the most common, corroborating the results found in the literature.
