Resumen

The presence of the professional Physiotherapist is important in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), preventing respiratory complications, reducing the time of mechanical ventilation and the deleterious effects caused by it, maintaining the respiratory system functionality, reducing the hospitalization time of this patient and, consequently morbidity and mortality. The criteria for searching for data used were: books, as well as personal collection, published between 1993 and 2017, which is in the Portuguese and English language, which are published in Portuguese and English. were available in full rather than in summary form. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic care to recover respiratory system function, avoiding the mechanical ventilation of this patient, reducing the length of ICU stay. The studies showed that the presence of the Physiotherapist has been increasing in the ICUs, with an important role with control of ventilatory parameters, as well as the continuity of assistance in ventilatory weaning and extubation. The studies analyzed show the effectiveness of mechanical ventilation in the treatment of IRpA, improving respiratory discomfort, gasometric values and metabolic changes in patients. It was verified the importance of the presence of the physiotherapist in the control of ventilatory parameters used in mechanical ventilators, as well as the continuity of their assistance in ventilatory weaning and extubation. Physiotherapy, even though it is considered a relatively new profession, has been indispensable in many areas, especially in the ICUs. Its techniques and managements have generated to the patients a clinical improvement, therefore reducing the time of hospitalization of these in the hospital units.
