Aging is something natural for all living beings, and in this stage of life it is common to limit some functional and motor capacities, making basic activities difficult. Strength training is used today for the elderly in order to enable greater durability of these capacities that are reduced over time. For many years, strength training was considered dangerous for the elderly. With the evolution of Science, it was found that this training is a great ally in aging, generating positive effects on strength, flexibility, balance and cardiovascular function. The research addresses articles and studies already published on websites, scientific articles and books, and through them it was possible to see numerous benefits for the elderly who practice this type of training. The main objective is to demonstrate the various benefits for the elderly who practice strength training, such as clarifying doubts about its execution. It is concluded that strength training for the elderly is of paramount importance since it provides greater independence in daily activities.
