Tuberculosis is still a very serious problem in the counties of Vale do Mucuri e Jequitinhonha. The objective was to identify the epidemiological profile of the patients that abandoned the treatment of tuberculosis under the supervision of the Regional Management of Health of Teófilo Otoni in a period of ten years. It is a quantitative and descriptive study with a base of information of the System of Information and Injuries and Notifications (SINAN) and the variables analyzed were age, sex, color, schooling, zone of residence, type of entrance, institutionalization and injuries associated. It was verified that 153 cases of abandonment of the treatment notified in the entire regional, the great majority are men (77%), 66% were between 20 and 40 years of age, studied for about 1 to 8 years (24%), non-institutionalized (66%), and within the injuries alcoholism is the predominant one. It was observed that the abandonment of the treatment of tuberculosis in the region is with an index of 8%, which is above the average recommended by the Ministry of Health of 5%. It is necessary to make strategies to minimize this index, avoiding the dissemination of the illness, the multiresistance of the bacteria and consequently the increase of mortality.
