IMPORTANCE OF CANABIDIOL FOR THE TREATMENT OF EPILEPSY IN BRAZIL

Objective: The purpose of this study was to gather bibliographic information related to the therapeutic character of cannabidiol (CBD), the essential non-psychoactive element of the vegetable Cannabis sativa (cannabis), as a medicine for therapy of psychic disorders, especially epilepsy. Methodology: The data obtained for the formation of this work originated from articles, magazines and books dated from 1940 to 2019, which were written or published on websites. Results: Several studies of clinical content report the productive results of CBD to relieve seizures, exposing total or partial recovery in most patients observed. In addition, the use of cannabinoid did not reveal significant adverse or toxic effects, and its use for a prolonged period did not create tolerance, nor at least any evidence of dependence or withdrawal. However, significant information on the way the chemical character of the substance is described and the accurate description of pharmacokinetics has been rare so far in the works, which has delimited the progress of new drugs, possessing cannabidiol. Conclusion: It is concluded that CBD symbolizes a prosperous path for the epileptic patients who do not indicate return to the existing conventional treatments, because it can prevent the occurrence of brain damage and therefore alter the natural narrative of the disease.
