Abstract

Cardiac surgeries have become increasingly common in the world and although they are a valuable method in curing various problems related to heart disease, they are also the cause of most deaths in these procedures, especially due to subsequent complications. Many studies have sought to identify factors and methods that can decrease the chances of these complications and, thus, bring more quality of life and a more significant improvement for patients. In this sense, one method used is the pulmonary expansion therapy used both before and after surgery. Studies have put this practice as a way to strengthen the respiratory system and reduce the chances of complications after the procedure. Here, the practice in the preoperative period will be studied, based on the analysis of several practical studies on the subject. The work has as methodology the bibliographic research done in the form of literature review, based on articles published in databases with scielo, lilacs, google scholar, among others.
