NOTIFICATIONS OF WOMEN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN TEÓFILO OTONI BETWEEN 2017 TO 2019

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to analyze the profile of women victims of domestic violence in Teófilo Otoni city between 2017 to 2019. A cross-sectional study with secondary data from the Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificações (SINAN) was accessed to describe the profile of the victims. In the last 3 years were registered 377 cases of women domestic violence, with an increase of more than 80% from 2017 to 2019. Women were mostly brown (82%), with incomplete primary education (14%), living in the urban area (83%). Despite the gradual increase in psychological and moral violence, physical violence is still prevalent and practiced predominantly by other family members and/or neighbors. Domestic violence is a sad reality in Brazil and the main results presented here demonstrate an alarming increase in cases registered in the Teófilo Otoni city between the years 2017 to 2019. It is recognized that there is underreporting of cases of domestic violence due to different impeding barriers, ranging from shame and embarrassment to making the report, to the impediment of the victim by other family members. It is the nurse's role to receive and conduct care and to collect relevant information about this type of violence. The results presented here can help state managers and agents to better understand the profile of these victims and develop strategies to welcome and prevent this type of violence.
