Down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic condition that affects a person's physical and cognitive development. It is the most common form of intellectual disability of genetic origin. Down syndrome occurs due to the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21, which results in distinct physical characteristics and can cause developmental delays and other associated medical conditions. Therefore, the main objectives of this work are to identify the care that should be taken by the nursing team with patients with down syndrome; evaluate care techniques; describe the main points to be taken into account in care and cite the importance of such care for the patient's quality of life. It is an integrative review, a research method that synthesizes several studies that have been published and allows drawing general conclusions about a particular area of research. Build a comprehensive literature review to facilitate future discussions of research methods and results, as well as reflections on new research performance. The main objective of this research method is to gain a deep understanding of a certain phenomenon based on previous studies. It is therefore concluded that they are present to provide emotional support both to people with Down syndrome and to their families. They can provide a warm and empathetic environment, listen to concerns and provide practical guidance for dealing with emotional and behavioral challenges. It is important to emphasize that these are just some of the areas in which nurses are involved in the care of people with Down syndrome. Care is multidisciplinary and requires a holistic approach, with the involvement of a team of specialized health professionals, including physicians, nurses, therapists and social workers.
