BENEFITS OF NEUROFUNCTIONAL PHYSIOTHERAPY IN THE CARE OF PATIENTS WITH TOURETTE SYNDROME

Tourette's syndrome is a genetic disease that affects the nervous system and is characterized by compulsive seizures, including motor and vocal tics, which can harm the individual's psychological and social life. The syndrome, which usually begins before age 18, is incurable but manageable, and can also be accompanied by obsessive-compulsive symptoms, learning difficulties and attention-hyperactivity disorder. In view of this observation, this study aimed to describe the benefits of physiotherapy in the care of patients with Tourette's syndrome. This is a bibliographic study, of a qualitative nature and with descriptive purposes, which was produced through scientific articles from the SciELO and Google Scholar databases. For the bibliographic survey, the following combined keywords were used: Tourette's Syndrome; Physiotherapy; Rehabilitation; Neurofunctional. Finally, the parallels between this theoretical perspective on attention and the postulated approach to motor control in neurofunctional physiotherapy were identified, in this way it was considered that the benefits that can be brought to patients such as: greater body awareness of the muscles when around the symptoms; muscle control, posture and breathing, muscle relaxation and strengthening, pain control and muscle overload, and the translation of sensory information into a more appropriate motor response.
