Abstract

The objective of this work was to estimate the nutritional requirements in calcium and phosphorus for weight gain in Santa Inês sheep of different sex classes. The experiment was carried out at UFCG's NUPEÁRIDO farm, PatosPB. 24 sheep were used, 12 males and 12 females, 80 days old ± 5 days and with an average body weight of 15 kg, which were distributed in randomized blocks with three treatments (0%, 25%, 50% of food restriction) and two sex classes. Initially, six animals were slaughtered to serve as a reference for estimating empty body weight (PCV) and initial body composition. The animals were kept in confinement, receiving the diet, in individual pens. The body composition of calcium and phosphorus varied from 8.71 to 9.83 g / Kg and 7.01 to 7.81 g / Kg, respectively. Estimates of body composition as a function of PCV for calcium and phosphorus increased from 97 g to 203 g and from 94 to 175 g kg-1 of empty body, respectively, as body weight increased from 15 to 30 kg. There was no effect between PC, PCV, calcium and phosphorus (P˃0.05). Body composition and net calcium and phosphorus requirements are similar for males and females. These data reflect the results of the analysis of body composition.
