THE VIEW OF NURSING TO THE ELDERLY PATIENT DIAGNOSED WITH HIV

Abstract

The growing number of elderly people has increased considerably, this is due to the increase in their expectations and quality of life, which entails a series of experiences related to aging. The aging process has been modernizing, seeking to leave prejudices and taboos behind, showing that the elderly lose the image of being accommodated, sad and incapable, bringing a new reality of being a healthy, social person, who enjoys a phase of discoveries and new experiences, being able to relate even in a more advanced stage of life, enjoying pleasures and being sexually active. In this context, the elderly population is exposed to sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, responsible for the onset of AIDS, being an opportunistic disease that directly affects the immune system, harming the elderly more intensely, as they are already undergoing physiological changes due to age. In view of the above, the following problem arose: What is the conduct and care of the nurse for the elderly patient in the face of the diagnosis and coping with HIV? In order to answer the question above, a qualitative methodology was chosen, through a bibliographical review, with theoretical references such as: articles, books, magazines, documentaries, government websites, among others, with the purpose of describing the Nursing Perspective on the Elderly Patient Diagnosed with HIV.
