Abstract

The puerperium is the period immediately after the baby is born, which can cause changes in physiological and psychological levels in women. One of these changes thatdeserves visibility is urinary incontinence.In thissense, physiotherapy is a resource thatcan be used in order to promote improvements regarding the strengthening of the muscles of the perineal region, especially Kegel exercises, whichpromotegreater support of the organs of that region, maintaining the functions to prevent urinary loss active. The interest in addressing the performance of kegelexercises in puerperal womenarose from the questioning about its benefits in favor of urinary incontinence, including in the gestationalperiod. The aim of this study is to analyze and discuss the benefits of applyingkegelexercises in strengthening the pelvicfloor in women in the puerperium with stress urinary incontinence. The relevance of the work is notorioussincethere are high rates of puerperal women with a report of urinary incontinence due to the weakening of the pelvicmuscles, inciting that urinary incontinence generateslimitation of physicalactivities, discomfort and vexingsituations in women. From the bibliographiccompilation, it can be concluded that urinary incontinence is a public healthproblem that deservesattention, since it causes a huge negative impact on people'squality of life. As for the treatments to be used for women in the puerperium, the most common indication is aimed at strengthening the pelvic floormuscles.
