Abstract

The study aims to elucidate how the periodontitis microbiota affects the gestational state. Thus, the bacteria involved travel systematically, causing complications to the woman's health and risk to the fetus being generated, through hypertension and pre-eclampsia, and it is necessary to evaluate the trimester of pregnancy in order to proceed with the appropriate treatments. For this purpose, articles in Portuguese, English and Chinese were used, in the chronology from 2013 to 2024, excluding letters to the editor, conference abstracts and duplicate articles in the PubMed, SciELO and BVS databases. The descriptors used were: “periodontitis”, “pregnancy” and “placenta”. In conclusion, it has been observed that some studies have shown how the bacteria that remain at the level of the periodontal pockets, spread into the bloodstream through the innervations that reach the periodontal apex, causing an increase in blood pressure, in addition to invading the placenta and stimulating premature birth, posing a great risk to the health of the woman and her fetus.
