PAPEL DA SUPLEMENTAÇÃO DE VITAMINA D NO MANEJO DA SARCOPENIA EM IDOSOS

Vitamin D plays a crucial role in bone metabolism and in a series of processes in the human body, with its deficiency being associated with sarcopenia and loss of muscle function in older adults, restinga from factors such as lhes sun exposure and obesity. However, the effectiveness of its supplementation in treating sarcopenia is still an active and controversial topic of research. This integrative review aimed to critically describe the effects of vitamin D supplementation to improve the sarcopenia parameters in older adults. The search was realized on the MEDLINE, LILACS and SciELO databases. The descriptors and keywords used were "Aged", "Sarcopenia" e "Vitamin D". 14 papers were included in the quality analysis. It was verified that nutritional supplementation, including vitamin D, protein, and branched-chain amino acids, has shown improvements in muscle mass and function in sarcopenic older adults. Furthermore, it can help minimize chronic low-grade inflammation, which is one of the main contributors to the progression of frailty and sarcopenia. However, despite some promising evidence the relationship between vitamin D and this muscle loss is still inconsistent in recent studies. Additional research is necessary to obtain further clarification.
