Introduction: Respiratory Tract Infections (RTIs) are among the most common disorders in pediatrics and the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In approximately 15% of children, these infections are recurrent, affecting their quality of life and that of their families, in addition to the social impacts and costs generated to the public coffers, requiring resolute interventions to reduce their recurrence. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of probiotics in the prevention of Recurrent Respiratory Infections (RRI) and their impacts. Method: This is an Integrative Literature Review, carried out in six stages, using the descriptors in health sciences, in English, combined as follows <<Probiotics AND "Respiratory Tract Infections” AND Child>> and applied to the databases National Library of Medicine, Scientific Electronic Library Online, The Search Portal for Life Sciences, Virtual Health Library and Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel. Free language, full text and a time period of twenty years were adopted for selection of studies, resulting in a sample of 16 articles. Results: A significant part of the studies (93.8%) demonstrated the effectiveness of probiotics in preventing IRR in the analyzed population. In children treated with probiotics, there was a reduction in the use of antibiotics, symptoms, hospitalizations, days of illness, school absenteeism and severity. Conclusion: The use of probiotics shows promise in preventing these infections in childhood. However, additional studies are needed to consolidate the evidence, considering the variability of strains, time of use and other limitations found.
