Abstract

Heart failure (HF) is considered a public health problem, as it is a disease in which the heart is unable to meet tissue and metabolic demands. HF is considered a problem that reduces the patient's functional capacity and reduces quality of life. This study aimed to understand and outline the epidemiological and clinical profile of patients diagnosed with HF followed up at a highly complex outpatient clinic in the city of Cascavel/PR. This research was observational, retrospective, documentary in nature and collected data from electronic medical records of patients treated at a teaching hospital in the city of Cascavel/PR. Patients of both sexes, aged over 18 years, with a definitive diagnosis of HF and who were admitted to the hospital's high complexity service outpatient clinic between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2022 were included. The variables were collected gender, age group, ethnicity, comorbidities, associated heart diseases, surgical procedures, possible etiologies, classification of HF and medications for continuous use. A higher prevalence was found in individuals aged between 61-70 years (31.25%), in relation to sex, males represented 58.04% of cases. The most common etiology was ischemic with 49.11%, and SAH was the most frequent comorbidity. CAD was the most common heart disease in this population and the use of antihypertensive drugs was present in 99.11% of patients. Regarding the type of HF, preserved ejection fraction was present in 52.64% of patients.
