ABSTRACT
Exostoses are benign, asymptomatic bone growths of idiopathic origin that can affect any bone in the human body and are characterized as anatomical variations. In the maxillary bones, these exostoses are called "torus" and can prevent or hinder the adaptation of prostheses, especially in totally edentulous patients. Objectives: to describe the surgery to regularize bilateral maxillary bone exostosis in the pre-prosthetic stage of a 60-year-old male melanodermic patient with total edentulism. Methodology: This is a descriptive study of a clinical case, which was carried out by undergraduate students at the UFCG Dental School Clinic. The procedure was carried out in two surgical procedures, with a 15-day interval between them. The surgical procedure included intraoral and extraoral antisepsis with 0.12% and 2% chlorhexidine respectively, anesthesia with articaine, incision with a 15c blade at the height of the ridge and a posterior relief incision, detachment of the full-thickness flap, bone regularization with a maxicut drill, filing with a bone file, abundant irrigation with saline solution, suturing with 4-0 nylon thread and post-operative prescriptions (amoxicillin, nimesulide and dipyrone). The patient was referred for oral rehabilitation with full dentures 60 days after surgery. Conclusion: Alveoloplasty is a viable therapeutic option whenever it is indicated and properly planned, since it makes it possible for the patient to use the upper total prosthesis satisfactorily, restoring function, aesthetics and quality of life.
