Abstract

Acmella Oleracea or Jambu as it is known in the Amazon, is widespread in its use for toothache and flu due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory potential. In addition to having as striking characteristics the sensation of numbness and tingling left on the lips due to the presence of spilantol, which is a bioactive substance. Therefore, this article focuses on the phytochemical Espilantol, evaluating its therapeutic potential according to data in the literature. This study is an integrative literature review, in which the research bases were through articles and journals using the PubMed/MedLine, SciELO, Google Scholar and Science Direct databases. Based on the information presented, Acmella has important active ingredients, mainly spilantol, which is responsible for analgesic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cosmetic activities.
