Migraine is one of the most well-known headaches in the world. Despite not having a specific test, the diagnosis can be made quickly during a medical consultation, with accurate information provided by the patient. Over the years, botulinum toxin has been used mainly for aesthetic treatments, but research shows its effectiveness when used as an ally in the treatment of migraines. The objective of this work is to synthesize in a literature review the existing information related to the treatment of migraine using Botulinum Toxin A (TB-A). Literature review (2018 to 2021) using databases Medline, PubMed, SciELO, ScienceDirect and Portland Press, with the descriptors “botulinum toxin A, headache disorders, migraine” in Portuguese and English. It is concluded that the use of botulinum toxin A in the treatment of migraine affects the frequency and intensity of pain, being considered the safest and most effective current treatment when compared to the other therapeutic methods mentioned in the present study.
