Cancer is a predominant cause of death in children and it is estimated that around 1,040 children, aged between 1 and 14 years, will lose their lives to the disease in 2023. Therefore, it is extremely important that child patients undergoing cancer treatment receive care from an interdisciplinary team, including dentistry professionals, in order to prevent and treat manifestations that affect the oral cavity, whether due to the cancer itself or the treatments used. Guidance on preventive practices related to oral health is essential during cancer treatment, therefore, it is ideal that all dental procedures are completed before starting immunosuppressive therapy. However, specific treatments for mucositis, opportunistic oral infections, pain, and other oral complications associated with cancer treatment should be administered as needed. As survival rates for childhood cancer improve, it is essential that dentists provide personalized care tailored to the needs of this vulnerable population. The following article was developed through a literature review based on the selection of systematic reviews, literature analyzes and case reports pertinent to oral and dental complications during pediatric cancer treatment, as well as the dental management of these issues published in recent five years (from 2018 to 2023).
