PHARMACEUTICAL ATTENTION AS A STRATEGY FOR THE RATIONAL USE OF MEDICINES IN ELDERLY:

Pharmaceutical care is a concept of professional practice in which the patient is the main beneficiary of the pharmacist's actions, as he ensures that he has access to information about the proper use of medicines, which contributes to their rational use. Other attributions of the pharmacist are: the monitoring of the use of medicines through the pharmacotherapeutic control form; counseling patients about the use of over-the-counter medicines (pharmaceuticals); participation in health education programs in collaboration with other health team members; and building indicators to measure the effectiveness of interventions. Therefore, such reflections are of fundamental importance for the larger objective of this work, which is to analyze the rational use of medicines through Pharmaceutical Care directed to the elderly of the Family Health Program (PSF) of the municipality of Novo Cruzeiro - MG, aiming at ensuring a pharmacotherapy. safe, rational and cost-effective. In the present study, the inclusion criteria were used to select volunteers, urban residents and those over 60 years old. The questionnaire was administered by the student herself to a sample of elderly people who were selected for convenience, and were asked to respond freely and spontaneously at the Basic Health Unit of the urban area. The procedure was performed with 66 people over the mandatory age range, being of both sexes. Based on the result, the positive impact of the insertion of the pharmacist and the pharmaceutical care in the municipality under study is shown, shown through research conducted with a sample of elderly residents in the urban area, indicating that the pharmacist is essential for the promotion of the rational use of medicines, to provide a better quality of life to their users, to clarify doubts and provide patients with an improvement in the quality of life.
