Abstract

The imbalance of the microbiota can be associated with several pathologies, among which we can highlight vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC). Probiotics are “good bacteria”, which have been shown to be allies in balancing the microbiota, positively helping women’s health quality of life. Therefore, this study aimed to point out the possibility of using Lactobacillus (probiotics) to treat and prevent CVV. This study is a literature review (2015- 2023), using the databases Google Scholar, SCIELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online), and PubMed, with the descriptors “ Candidiasis”, “Probiotics” and “Lactobacilli”. It was found that some strains of lactobacilli have probiotic potential, and could be an alternative for preventive therapy or complementary treatment to VVC, however, continued research is essential to clarify doubts about the use and effectiveness of probiotics in relation to VVC.
